I love contemporary fiction, but when Susannah Nix – who is an auto-buy author for me – announced her newest book, I have to admit I just wasn’t so sure about it. It wasn’t that it was a departure from the nerdy heroines she is known for. She’s written entire other series that I love. I hate to admit this, but it’s because the heroine is mature (read: my age). I guess I like to relive my younger years, because I just was not sure I would like reading about a middle aged woman.
Nix proved me wrong, however, as I very much enjoyed Mad About Ewe. I read it in two sittings, which was only a few hours length total. Dawn and Mike were both great characters. Dawn reminded me of myself, never wanting to need help – stubborn to a fault and often finding myself frustrated with myself because of it. And Mike was just right for her – willing to be persistent, patient, and kind, even when Dawn didn’t necessarily deserve it. They were a good reminder that wonderful things CAN happen to people even after the age of 30. 🙂
